Entebbe, Uganda
10 – 12 September 2007

As a follow-up to the special event on “Weather, Climate and Water Services for Development and Disaster Mitigation in LDCs” held in New York in September 2006, and pursuant to the decision of its Congress and Executive Council, the World Meteorological Organization has organised a Coordination and Capacity Building Workshop for LDCs in Africa. The workshop will bring together the national focal points for the implementation of the Brussels Programme for LDCs and the heads of national meteorological and hydrological services (NMHS).

The main objective of the workshop is to promote a better understanding of the contribution of weather, climate and related services to the socio-economic development of LDCs, particularly in the areas of poverty reduction, disaster-risk reduction, environmental protection, agriculture and food security, health and water resources management. The workshop will also serve to:

  • Establish strategic partnership at the national and regional levels, and
  • Share experiences and success stories on the beneficial use of meteorological and hydrological information, products and services in socio-economic development.

The workshop will be followed by a one-day capacity building workshop on management for the heads of national meteorological and hydrological services.
