Side event to the High-level Meeting on AIDS 2008
On 10-11 June 2008, the United Nations General Assembly will hold the high-level meeting on HIV/AIDS which will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. It will review progress made in implementing the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the 2006 Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS.
In preparation for this meeting, the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), in partnership with the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), is organizing a side event on the theme “Universal Access to Affordable HIV/AIDS Diagnostics, Prevention and Treatment: In Search of Sustainable Solutions.”
The side event, featuring representatives of Member States, the United Nations, civil society organisations and the pharmaceutical industry, will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Conference Room 2, from 11 am to 1
The purpose of the event is to mobilize international support and action to achieve universal access to HIV/AIDS diagnostics and treatment as a means for the attainment of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) on HIV/AIDS and other MDGs by 2015.
