The Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, the Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) and FAO, in collaboration with IFAD and WFP, organized a special event on ways to address food security challenges through sustainable agriculture development, structural transformation and new modes of international development cooperation.
The special event took place on Tuesday June 18, 2013 from 18:00 to 19:00 in Rome, Italy on the margins of the 38 FAO Conference.
The High-level Event was co-hosted by M. José Graziano da Silva, Director-General, FAO, and M. Gyan Chandra Acharya, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for LDCs, LDCs and SIDS. Panelists included H.E. Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Minister for Food of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh; H.E. M. Marc Yombounou, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Guinea; and H.E. M. Mehdi Eker, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Turkey. M. Jomo Kwame Sundaram, Assistant Director General, FAO and Ms. Elisabeth Rasmusson, Assistant Executive Director, WFP, and M. Kevin Cleaver, Associate Vice President for Programmes, IFAD, led the discussion.
