As the LLDCs and their partners prepare to undertake the midterm review of the Vienna Programme of Action for the LLDCs for the Decade 2014-2024 (VPoA) in 2019 as called for in the General Assembly resolution 72/232, it is important to identify the challenges that climate change is posing to the LLDCs’ efforts in their implementation of the SDGs and identify priority areas of effective international support that can successfully support LLDCs to manage climate change and harness available opportunities.

In this context, the side event on ‘SDGs and Climate change: Challenges and Opportunities for landlocked developing countries’ is being organized.

The meeting aims to provide an opportunity for different stakeholders, the LLDCs, UN Member States, UN system, Civil Society, and Donor community to share information on the challenges that the climate change pose to the achievement of the SDGs. The Meeting is expected to come up with concrete ideas and recommendations on deliverables in the area of reducing the vulnerability of LLDCs to the impact of climate change and desertification, which will feed into the preparation of the Midterm Review of the VPoA.
