Leveraging Green Growth Potential in Vulnerable Countries
28 September 2018
1:15 – 2:30 pm
Conference Room 5
UN Headquarters, New York
The United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and the Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), in cooperation with the Republic of Korea, will hold a high-level event on Leveraging Green Growth Potential in Vulnerable Countries at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.
Climate change has had a devastating impact on the lives and livelihoods of millions of people from the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States. These nations are especially vulnerable to climate change and it’s impacts – whether reduced food security, rising sea levels, or increased risks of extreme weather, floods, and droughts. Yet sustained growth is critical for these countries to overcome the special challenges that they face.
Green growth lies at the core of the 2030 Agenda, Paris Agreement and the Programmes of Action of the vulnerable countries, and holds the key to helping them to transition to climate resilient, environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive economic growth. This event will bring together stakeholders from vulnerable countries and development partners, from public and private sectors, to share best-practices and stories of success, with a view to mobilizing greater resources and partnerships in support of the vulnerable country groups.
